OPUS was formed in February of 2000 after several Naperville Central High School parents became concerned about the reduction of orchestra program. OPUS is a charitable (IRS 501 c 3), not-for-profit organization that actively supports and promotes the orchestra activities in the Naperville District 203 schools.

Excerpts from OPUS Bylaws
1.02 For the purpose of these bylaws, general publication and publicity, the Orchestra Parents/Patrons’ United Support is hereinafter designated as OPUS.
2.01 OPUS shall be an independent, volunteering, and non-political organization formed for the purpose of promoting and supporting the NCUSD203 orchestra and community matters related to NCUSD203 Orchestra. OPUS was formed for the purpose of stimulating and encouraging students' interest in learning orchestral and string music. The membership was originally limited to parents of Naperville District 203 school orchestra students and has been expanded to include additional area participants. In addition to direct involvement in D203 School Orchestra programs, OPUS has organized a very successful Summer Music Camp / Chamber Music Workshop.
2.02 OPUS shall be a charitable, non-profit organization for the purpose of supporting and providing additional finances for those activities and/or enrichment of the NCUSD203 Orchestra which are not included in NCUSD 203 appropriations.
2.03 To fulfill this purpose, OPUS shall:
A. Support NCUSD203 orchestra programs as directed by the Orchestra Directors.
B. Stimulate and sustain interest among students, parents, and communities.
C. Encourage students' interest in music.
D. Promote students' musical achievements and performance in community.
3.01 Active (voting) members shall be parents/legal guardians of NCUSD 203 students as well as of orchestra students outside NCUSD203 who have maintained their membership in accordance with the OPUS membership requirements and provisions set in these Bylaws.
3.02 Supporting and Patron (non-voting) membership are open to people outside orchestra family
3.03 Exofficio (by virtue of their office/position) members shall be non-voting and shall consist of:
  • Orchestra Directors
  • NCUSD 203 Principals
  • NCUSD 203 Pertinent Orchestra, Humanities, or Fine Arts Department Chairperson(s) or Designated Liaison(s)
  • Past President(s) of OPUS
  • 3.06 Because OPUS is a service organization, all members are encouraged to volunteer.
