{"id":246,"date":"2013-11-24T16:38:26","date_gmt":"2013-11-24T16:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/napopus.org\/?p=246"},"modified":"2013-11-29T15:11:55","modified_gmt":"2013-11-29T15:11:55","slug":"opus-to-present-holiday-concerts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/napopus.org\/?p=246","title":{"rendered":"OPUS to Present Holiday Concerts!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On November 19, 2000, Ed Bradley did a piece called\u00a0 &#8220;The Orchestra&#8221; on 60 Minutes, which introduced Venezuela&#8217;s national efforts to make every child learn an instrument, from which they form a national orchestra made of 180 of the country&#8217;s best young musicians (up to 18 years old).\u00a0 OPUS was quite touched by this story.\u00a0 Some of the lovely sayings from this broadcast are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Orchestra is a community whose essence is in collaboration.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Orchestra requires teamwork, rigor, and disciplines, all of these elements, besides influencing the music, influencing a person&#8217;s development.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The music taught me how to treat people without violence.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bravo!\u00a0 On Sunday Nov. 17, 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbs.com\/shows\/60_minutes\/video\/jtst9K3rRUEJ5XApCqHLMaM94TLIawej\/the-recyclers-from-trash-comes-triumph\/\">60 Minutes did another segment on Paraguay<\/a>, where Bob Simon reported much the same as the Venezuela story &#8212; only the instruments seemed more self-made, from metal buckets, wood, brushes, materials from the trash &#8230;.then there some help started to come from outside via donations &#8212; how touching!<br \/>\nOPUS will continue to perform community concerts to bring the Holiday spirit to all.
